HKDC Design Market @ K11

Another highly recommended market I went to last week was the Design Market organized by the Hong Kong Design Centre at K11. Thanks to my mum who somehow found out about this on Time Out's Facebook group, I've bought a fair share of accessories that I constantly wear almost everyday.

This market is a heaven for those who love handcrafted accessories and original clothes. Like Island East Markets, the HKDC promotes local upcoming brands by opening up a platform so that shoppers can easily go around learning about these underground labels. Many of these stalls feature exciting concepts that I've never seen outside this market. One of my favourite concepts include a resin made lampshade that looks like glass but feels like plastic. With the light inside the lampshade, the walls are projected with colourful patterns that resemble Murano glass but at a much cheaper price. I also managed to pick up a trench coat designed by a local brand and several accessories for myself (the jacket which I will later post as a look on my Lookbook).  I can honestly say that this is one of the best markets that I've ever been to yet a part of me just wants to slap the management for not making it permanent. -sigh- When the time comes, I'll make sure you'll be the first to know!

Island East Markets

Haven't posted in ages so I promised myself a double post today :) It's fitting since these past 2 weeks have been filled with  trying new things and going to new places around town. After looking at Gary's blog post at g4gary.blogspot.com (which by the way is a must read for all food obsessed people) about Island East Markets, I had to go have a look myself given the rarity of such markets in Hong Kong.

Initiated by the Hong Kong Markets Organization, Island East Markets aims to expose and showcase the best of Hong Kong through locally grown food and artisanal goods. With an assortment of local organic farm produce and F&B outlets, you can easily pick up your groceries or have some quality food while browsing the market. The bread and cheese at Classified sold out pretty fast so make sure you get there before the crowds. The tea selection in one of the stalls is also worth checking out as they have a unique variety of tea leaves. Apparently, the owner was so obsessed with tea that his garden had a greenhouse which is used solely to grow tea leaves. Talk about dedication!

Obviously, no market would be complete without handmade crafts and second hand clothing. While there weren't a lot of these stalls, every one of them had something truly unique to offer. From custom made cheongsam's to handcrafted accessories, I doubt you'll leave empty handed.

Island East Markets open every Sunday from 10-5pm and will be back from November 11 to December 16. Click the link below to find out more about the market and how to get there. Happy shopping!

H&M F/W 2012 Ad Campaign: She Wore Blue Velvet

Lana Del Rey as the face and inspiration of H&M's 2012 fall collection singing Blue Velvet - music video directed by Johan Renck. The only thing I have against H&M's promotions are the moving ads on the MTR where Lana looks at you as if she's staring into your soul. Otherwise, a likeable collection featuring an even catchier song.

Only in Hong Kong

I must be rather behind with fashion lately… Who knew Alexander Wang switched his surname to Wong? Perhaps it has everything to do with Hedi Slimane's influence at "Saint Laurent". But then again, it might have absolutely nothing to do with Slimane as I'm once again reminded that I'm standing on Chinese soil. How amusing.

converse x missoni

Merging Converse's street style hi-top design with Missoni's infamous knits, their collaboration has produced some serious eye candy in the shoe department. Offered with 2 variations at €400 a pair, it can easily be one of Converse's most expensive yet satisfying collaboration to date. Available exclusively at colette.fr.

CLOCKENFLAP IS BAAAACK

One of the best things that has ever happened to Hong Kong will be happening again this year during the first weekend of December as an annual music and arts festival. Last year, big names such as Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Bombay Bicycle Club and Santogold helped introduce the indie music scene and promote local indie bands such as Supper Moment and Noughts and Exes. This year's lineup has been promised to be even bigger with one of my favourite bands playing. The list so far contains Primal Scream, De La Soul, alt-J Chochukmo, Noughts and Exes and countless others who will be announced later this year. Tickets go on sale this Sunday 7 October through  their website  http://www.clockenflap.com/tickets. Prices for the weekend pass for adults is HKD 590 and a weekend pass for students will cost HKD 490 (Saturday/Sunday tickets are also available). Happy flapping!

Latest update: The one and only Azealia Banks has been confirmed to perform at Clockeflap 2012!!
