[OOTD] Frozen

Perhaps the proudest moment of any shopaholic is when they hunt down the ultimate bargain at a remote sample sale before anyone else grabs hold of it. On that note, my trip to the Tung Chung outlets was definitely an unprecedented success; having found this stunning down jacket with an exaggerated profile and oversized collar. Doesn't it resemble one of those avant-garde, experimental Gareth Pugh jackets? At HKD400, there was no need for second thoughts.

True to its name, Tokujin Yoshioka's pure, unadulterated aesthetic underscores an elemental simplicity made visible by his approach to furniture design. FASHION | New York Fashion Week Fall 2014 Roundup

First off, my sincere apologies for the recent lack of updates. It's been a hectic week of research and writing for the following article but I assure you that there will be more amazing content soon to come (look carefully and you'll even find a new addition to the site that is already up and running). That, and many more coming soon to Cut & Copy!

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week kicked off Fall 2014 with a number of strong collections geared towards practicality; most notable in the outerwear department where survival appears to be a recurring theme for designers.

With MBFW comes a certain amount of sportswear that is signature to the design aesthetic of New York's vibrant fashion scene. Monochromatic hues appear on many of the collections with figures either exaggerated by large overcoats or restrained with sharp menswear-inspired tailoring. Textural elements such as jacquards, wool knits, satin and fur is another key trend revealing innovative fabrics that seamlessly merge comfort with design, especially when combined together creating new methods of construction.

Below is a selection of my favourite MBFW designers for Fall 2014 together with a short review for each show. Noteworthy collections include Alexander Wang, Christian Siriano, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler and Suno.

Stay tuned for more Fashion Week roundup reports in the next couple of weeks. Next stop, London!

FASHION | Le Gramme: Contemporary jewellery design

A couple of days ago, I came across this amazing bracelet while browsing through the Colette online store. Created by Adrien Messié and Erwann Le Louër, their minimal aesthetic is a breath of fresh of air that merges both form and function in jewellery design.

Chief designer Messié uses the word "monoproduct" to describe their collection of bracelets. With a utilitarian design that is both easy-to-wear and hard to resist, Le Gramme easily captures the essence of a modern wardrobe staple.

MUSIC | Cut and Copy: The Spring 2014 Edit

It's been a while since I've posted a music playlist and it's safe to say that I've used Soundcloud and Spotify to the limit searching for quality content. With fashion comes innovation, and there's no doubt that music on the runway is equally as cutting edge. Fashion leader and master of social media Alexander Wang is known for his collaborations and his knack for finding upcoming talent (with notable artists such as Bon Qui Qui, Azzealia Banks and Die Antwoord having all been featured in his video ad campaigns).

For Spring 2014, Cut & Copy unveils a selection of tunes that are fresh and definitely dance-worthy. Major Lazer (a.k.a. Diplo/Thomas Pentz) does it again with his newly released dancehall-inspired "Aerosol Can" featuring aggressive non-sequitors from rapper Pharrell Williams. Austin based pop rock band starts off strong in their recent single "Be Reasonable, Diane", with catchy guitar licks and a feel-good chorus. Another favourite from British folk/blues artist George Ezra is his hit single "Budapest" having also been featured in Burberry's latest Spring campaign.

PHOTOGRAPHY | Twenty thirteen, oh what a night we had!

Things got a bit nostalgic as I peered through the many files stored on my laptop. Curiously, I rediscovered a batch of my old photos that I somehow forgot about. In a folder named "I <3 HK" (original name I know), I stumbled upon 4 gems that I thought deserved to be shown on Cut & Copy. Pity I only had so little... I suppose it's a prompt for me to continue with this photographic journey, if I can call it that.

Nevertheless, these 4 photographs capture some of my favourite moments in this crazy city. It's definitely one filled with many contrasts: East and West, modern versus traditional, noise versus solitude, and so forth. Together with Röyksopp's jukebox inspired single "Twenty Thirteen", I happily reminisce and love my city even more.
